Team-Based Inquiry to Teach Research Skills

This semester I tried to take a more collaborative approach to how students in my class approached the research process and found that they really got a lot out of working together.

Here are some of the strategies I found helpful:

  1. Encouraging students to get involved in research first-hand by doing primary research.
  2. Planning the course backwards so that writing assignments and activities can better support the research process.
  3. Having students work in research groups that way they can share and reflect on the primary and secondary sources they collect.
